Membrane-based brine concentration technology was successfully tested
A membrane-based brine concentration technology developed and patented by UK-based Forward Osmosis pioneer Modern Water plc was successfully tested on a pilot scale at Murugampalayam Common Effluent Treatment Plant in Tirupur. The All Membrane Brine Concentrator (AMBC) achieves energy-efficient reduction of wastewater volume as compared to thermal brine concentrator that is in use at a fraction of its operating cost, and thus makes the Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system economically viable. Achieving regulatory ZLD norms is serious business in India and the successful brine concentration trial was widely reported in the Indian media.
